Therapies Offered
Types of massage a. Trigger point therapy
–Its benefits are well documented (Travell and Simmons: Myofacial Pain
and Dysfunction). When muscles have been overused or misused, they
protect themselves by contracting. Trigger point therapy uses deep
specific pressure accompanied by deep breathing to interrupt the
nervous signal loop to allow the muscle to return to it’s normal state
and function. b. Myofascial release
– The entire body is covered in fascia. The muscle sometimes adheres
to the fascia restricting muscle activity. Myofacial release works
with firm pressure to release these adhesions. c. Reiki (pronounced RAY-KEE) –
Universal life force energy flows through the practitioner to the
receiver and goes in the body wherever it’s needed. This is a very
subtle type of healing done on an energetic level with powerful results
on the energetic, emotional, and physical levels . d. Swedish –
This basic method is designed to relax muscles, increase blood flow and
boost the immune system by applying the following techniques:
kneading, friction, percussion, vibration, effleurage and petrissage. e. Thai yoga massage
–Sometimes called the “lazy man’s yoga,” Thai massage is like having
someone else do yoga for you, incorporating lots of stretching and
pressure points, utilizing the practioners hands and feet to open up
“sen lines” or energy channels in the body. f. Craniosacral therapy–
This involves balancing the movement of cerebral spinal fluid using a
natural form of biofeedback. It is very subtle and is particularly
good for headache relief and tempromandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. g. Chair massage –This
involves using a special portable massage chair at public events or
private parties for shorter sessions, usually lasting under 20 minutes. h. Reflexology –
This concentrates on the specific points in the feet that correspond
to other parts of the body. Very helpful for people who cannot have
other areas of their body massaged.
All the following forms of massage can be used in varying combinations for the greatest benefits and results.
i. Prenatal – This massage works with pregnant women at any stage, even up to labor, providing bolstering and cushioning for comfort and relief.
